Pinterest has released some very interesting data on the most popular pin categories by day of the week.
As it turns out, Pinterest users are more likely to pin a certain type of content depending on the day of the week.
Monday sees Fitness as the most popular category.
On Tuesday it’s Technology‘s turn with a big interest for gadgets.
Inspirational Quotes help users to get through Wednesday.
Fashion is the most popular category for Thursday. Getting ready for the weekend?
On Friday users start winding down so humor becomes the most popular topic on Pinterest.
On top of this data, Pinterest shares the fact that, since the launch five months ago, GIFs contribute the humor category with 400,000 of them pinned everyday!
Why is this important to your business?
With data such as this you are better able to understand your followers and optimize your pinning activity on Pinterest.
Depending in which category you operate or what type of content you want to distribute, you might find that aiming for a specific day of the week will increase user engagement and thereby increasing your utilization of limited time and people resources.
By all means, keep offering quality content throughout the week but if you have produced a really funny (at least in your opinion) GIF maybe wait for Friday rather than publishing it on Monday when Pinterest users are probably less receptive.
This knowledge can then be applied to other social networks.
Yes, the information relates to Pinterest users (in itself a relatively specific demographic skewed towards women) but I believe that these findings relate more to human nature rather than a specific social media platform.
I don’t see any reason why users on Facebook would be any more serious on Fridays than Pinterest users… do you? 🙂
